COX COMPLETED THE IRON CURTAIN DEFENCE. THOUGH A NATURALLY LEFT-SIDED PLAYER, HE WAS COMFORTABLE IN EITHER BERTH AT FULL BACK OR WING HALF.
During his time at Ibrox he even played inside forward and once at outside left and he also appeared for a Scotland side at inside forward against France in Paris in 1948.
He had good technical ability and a quick football brain which gave him a tremendous positional sense.

Darvel Juniors F.C. are marking their transition from Junior to Seniors as we formally become Darvel F.C. and play senior football under the West of Scotland Football League, by acknowledging all the admirable individuals who have played their part in keeping the Club going throughout our long history.
The “Juniors” Wall will be situated in the new “Sammy Cox” Memorial Garden, a special garden area within the grounds of Recreation Park for previous Players, Committee, Social Club Members, Supporters or anyone who has a special connection with the Club to have their names engraved into a brick to share with loved ones for many years to come.

You can sponsor a brick in your name or in memory of a loved one to commemorate their affiliation with Darvel FC. By sponsoring a brick in the “Juniors Wall” you will be helping to celebrate the history of Darvel Juniors and inspire future generations of Darvel FC as a Senior Club. The “Juniors” Wall will be a memorial that will last generations at Recreation Park.
A single brick with two lines of text will cost £50, and a double brick with 4 lines of text will cost £70. Maximum 16 characters per line.
